I found this little book eight years ago, at a time in my life where I needed to seek answers from the depths of myself. I tried the Tarot and other divination methods, but none of them really click with me. However, I immediately felt comfortable with runes and Ralph Blum’s book on the subject. Now, reading some of the other reviews, there are several people who really hate Mr. Blum own work and see it as an affront to “true rune masters.” All this is fine, but I’d say the vast majority of people the possibility of buying this book are much rune masters and just want a written source that will give them a good start. If you’re one of those people, then this is the book for you. As for the runes themselves. . . well, are not art, but to serve their purposes. . . and finally, this is all that matters. Yes, without doubt, make your own at some point, but probably not in the beginning, and that’s fine. These stones as raw as they are, will do the trick. I found great wisdom in the messages of these runes and understanding of my inner world. This book is a great tool in the search for a spiritual awakening. I have recently felt the need for a deeper understanding of the runes and found the books Edred Thorsson. Certainly it is a rune master of the highest order and I recommend it to those who already have knowledge of runes and is ready to move to another level. But Mr. Blum’s book is an excellent resource as well and I would not hesitate a moment to recommend it.

This book should be part of any collection for those interested in the latest (c 1980) revival of interest in the runes. Rune is still high book sales, but also one of the least wanted.
When first published, academic sources were not very accessible to the public would even have been available to Blum had made the effort. Instead, he created a simple system of divination based more on their own readings rune Ching-known sources of historical knowledge.

Blum’s book was my first contact with the “Nordic” runes. I bought after having puzzled to see an Irish character in the television series Earth Final Conflict with runes. My girlfriend just bought the game and said he had “played” with them for many years, and found them enlightening. I was intrigued.

Yes, this book comes with a set of runes. This is on the rise.
